Transition to a Paid App
Workflow Building Blocks for Jira Is Becoming a Paid App
Dear Workflow Building Blocks users,
We’re incredibly grateful to all the teams who have adopted and supported the app so far.
We’re writing to inform you about an update to our pricing plan, which will take effect at the beginning of August 2025. While pricing changes are never easy, we want to be fully transparent about why this change is necessary and how it will allow us to continue supporting and improving the app in a sustainable way.
What Is Workflow Building Blocks for Jira?
Our goal in developing Workflow Building Blocks was to combine ease of use with the full flexibility of Jira expressions. The app allows you to build conditions and validators using a simple, user-friendly interface—while also previewing the underlying Jira expression logic.
This transparency helps ensure you know exactly how each condition will behave, reducing guesswork and errors. It also offers a learning benefit: by seeing how expressions are constructed, many users gain confidence to write their own custom logic when needed.
Why We're Moving to a Paid Model
Since its launch on March 12, 2024, Workflow Building Blocks has grown steadily in both usage and functionality. To continue supporting the app responsibly, we’ll be transitioning to a paid model. This change will allow us to:
Develop more advanced features for a wider range of Jira workflows
Provide timely and dependable support for teams who rely on the app
Maintain and update the app sustainably over the long term
What’s Coming Next
As part of this transition, we’re also working on several improvements to expand the app’s capabilities:
New Post Functions – A new suite of post functions with advanced preconditions, giving you greater control over when actions are triggered.
Enhanced Validators and Conditions – Continued improvements to make building blocks more configurable, intuitive, and flexible across different use cases.
These updates are based on user feedback and will be rolled out progressively over the coming months.
We remain committed to putting you—our users—at the center of our development efforts. If you have feature suggestions or would like to share how your team uses the app, feel free to contact us or vote for ideas you'd like to see.
Pricing & Licensing
The app will follow Atlassian’s standard paid model:
Free for teams with 10 users or fewer
30-day free trial for all other tiers
Monthly or annual billing, managed directly through the Atlassian Marketplace
There are no changes to how the app is installed or managed. Updates and licenses will continue to be handled through your existing Jira administration tools.
After August 1, you’ll be able to view the exact pricing for your Jira instance directly in the Atlassian Marketplace, based on your user tier and billing cycle.

Questions You Might Have
When is the app becoming paid?
Workflow Building Blocks will transition to a paid model after August 1, 2025. Please check the Manage apps page in your Jira instance to see if an update is available after that date.
Can I still try the app for free?
Yes. If you haven’t used the app before, you’ll be able to start a 30-day free trial after August 1 to evaluate whether it suits your needs.
What do I need to do?
To continue using the app, update to the latest version. This can be done by you or your Jira administrator through the Manage apps section. Once updated, you will receive a license for the app.
I have been using the app for a while. Can I keep using it for free?
If you choose not to upgrade, your existing validators and conditions will continue to work as they are. However, access to new features will be limited, and we won’t be able to provide you with app updates or security patches. To get the most out of Workflow Building Blocks going forward, we recommend updating to the latest version and activating a license once it becomes available.
